Butterflyfish are from the family Chaetodontidae. The word chaetodon means bristle teeth. These tiny teeth are perfect for eating their favorite foods.

Coral reefs of tropical central and South Pacific

Coral polyps, Small worms, Crustaceans, Plankton, and Algae
Predators
Larger fish, Invertebrates, and Humans
Reproduction
Pyramid butterflyfish spawn during winter and early spring. Spawning occurs between a single pair. Each female produces about 20,000 eggs.
Conservation
THREATENED
Consequences of human activities, such as runoff from agriculture and overfishing, threaten the habitat of all coral reef animals.
