Pomacanthus annularis
Sharp spine
Marine angelfish have a sharp spine on the gill cover which is used to drive away intruders.
Different color
Juveniles have different color patterns which allow them to stay close to an adult without being chased away. Later they will take over the territory and change to the adult color pattern.

Habitat/Range
Sri Lanka to the Pacific Solomon Islands
Wild Diet
Small animals, Sponges, Algae, and Living Coral
Predators
Larger fish, Invertebrates, and Humans
Reproduction
Spawning occurs in spring and early summer, and involves a single pair of fish. Eggs and sperm are released into the water, where fertilization takes place. Eggs hatch 15 to 20 hours later.
Conservation
THREATENED
Consequences of human activities, such as runoff from agriculture and overfishing, threaten the habitat of all coral reef animals.
