Dwarf caiman

Paleosuchus palpebrosus
Small size
This is the smallest living member of the crocodilian family, with adults rarely exceeding 5 feet in total length.
"Dog-like" skull
The dwarf caiman is the only crocodilian that has this type of unusually-shaped skull, which is very high and smooth.

Habitat/Range
Flooded forests and along small streams in much of north and central South America.
Wild Diet
Invertebrates, Fish, Small mammals, and Small birds.
Predators
Birds of prey (hatchlings), Lizards (eggs and hatchlings), Small mammals (eggs and hatchlings), and Humans (adults).
Reproduction
Up to 25 eggs are laid along river banks in mound-shaped nests composed of vegetation, dirt, and other debris. Eggs take approximately 90 days to hatch.
Conservation
VULNERABLE
Currently listed as vulnerable in the wild. Current threats include habitat destruction, slaughter for meat and eggs, and the "curio" trade, where the young are killed and stuffed for illegal tourist souvenirs.
