Occasionally, a habitat, attraction or building may be temporarily unavailable to our guests due to construction, maintenance, animal health needs, special events or unforeseen circumstances. This page allows you to learn about which habitats, attractions and concessions are closed and how long they will be out of service. It also keeps you up to date on some exciting projects in progress. We apologize if any of your favorites are unavailable during your planned visit and hope that you will still join us for your dose of Vitamin Z!
The 10 Mile Road entrance to the Detroit Zoo (also known as Gate 1) will be closed until further notice beginning September 8, 2014, due to MDOT construction on the service drive wall. The Woodward Avenue entrance (also known as Gate 0) will be the only gate accessible for visitors, including those attending evening events.
The elevator to the visitor parking garage will be out of service for the month of September due to mechanical work.
Fennec foxes are on exhibit in the meerkat building. The meerkats are off exhibit.
The former Rissman Playscape turf is under renovation; the play area is temporarily closed.
Aardvarks are off exhibit due to building construction.

Detroit Zoo Hours
The Detroit Zoo is open 362 days a year, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through Labor Day (with extended hours until 8 p.m. Wednesdays during July and August), 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the day after Labor Day through October and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. November through March (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day).

Join us for Smashing Pumpkins on Wednesday, October 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and watch as our animals receive pumpkins filled with tasty treats to eat, play with, roll around in, tear apart and smash.
