Beat the winter blues this season during our Wild Winter Weekends at the Detroit Zoo. Wild Winter is a unique, fun way to experience the magic of the Zoo in winter. Enjoy your favorite habitats indoors and out along with special activities, including children’s music, zookeeper talks, crafts and much more. Wild Winter festivities will be on select weekends in January, February and March, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
January - Wild Winter Arctic Adventure
This event kicks off Wild Winter Weekends on January 12 and 13, 2013. The first in the series, Wild Winter Arctic Adventure, features ice carving demonstrations, arctic-themed arts and crafts, games and entertainment. All activities are free with Zoo admission and take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ford Education Center.
February - Wild Winter African Adventure
Celebrate African American History Month on February 9 and 10, 2013 at Wild Winter African Adventure with an African drum lesson and listen to stories told by Kenyan naturalist and Detroit Zoo Education Specialist David Gakure. Enjoy live entertainment, arts and crafts, games and educational experiences. All activities are free with Zoo admission and take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ford Education Center.
March - Wild Winter Safari Social
Escape the winter “blahs” with hot drinks and cool treats at Wild Winter Safari Social on March 9 and 10, 2013. Ice cream and hot cocoa will be available for purchase at a discount. Animal arts and crafts, face painting, animal enrichment activities, talks by the Zoo’s expert keepers and a winter safari scavenger hunt add to the fun. All activities are free with Zoo admission and take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ford Education Center.
