Youth Adventures (10-14 years)

Animal Care - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Single Day
Learn how our vets and zookeepers tend to the needs of the Zoo’s animals. Includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Animal Health Complex and Enrichment Kitchen (providing the hospital is not closed for an emergency situation). Participants will need to bring a lunch. Program cost is $75 for members, $85 for non-members.

Birders - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Single Day
Birding, or bird watching, is one of America’s favorite past times. We’ll spend time getting to know the birds that call the Zoo home through observations, owl pellet dissections and participating in the Great Migration Challenge. Participants will need to bring a lunch. Program cost is $75 for members, $85 for non-members.

Cold Blooded - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Single Day
Amphibians are in trouble! As a bio-indicator species, they let us know the health of the environment. We’ll investigate the causes of population decline and look into what we can do to help these vital members of the earth’s biodiversity. We’ll compare them to reptiles, one of the most feared species of the animal kingdom. We’ll dispel myths and get to the truth of these cold-blooded critters. Program cost is $30 for members, $35 for non-members. Participants will need to bring a lunch.

If You Ran the Zoo - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Single Day
What would you do if you ran the zoo? We’ll explore the multitude of jobs and responsibilities that it takes to keep our Zoo running! A tour through the administration area will give campers a look at what goes on behind-the-scenes on a daily basis to keep the animals and guests happy. Participants will need to bring a lunch. Program cost is $75 for members, $85 for non-members.

Illustrating the Animal World - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Single Day
Animals have been studied and drawn since the beginning of civilization. Cave drawings to modern masterpieces, we’ll explore the Zoo’s permanent art collection while creating our own works of art. Basic and intermediate drawing skills will be practiced with a variety of media, such as pastels,
charcoal, watercolors and more. Participants will need to bring a lunch. Program cost is $75 for members, $85 for non-members.

Destination Exploration - Weeklong, Whole Days
An intense immersion into animals and behavior, conservation and animal welfare, this experience will give youth the opportunity to build on their knowledge and love for nature and wildlife. The week includes a day trip to the Belle Isle Nature Zoo to study the island’s eco-system, test the water quality of a nearby lagoon, and feed the fallow deer at the Nature Zoo. Participants will need to bring a lunch each day. Program cost is $225 for members, $235 for non-members.

Overnight Extreme - Evening, Full Day
Spend the night and more at the Zoo! You’ll not only spend the evening exploring the Zoo, but the entire following day. Your time will be filled with activities such as enrichment sessions, making S’mores, observations and sketching, creating enrichment projects, a behind-the-scenes tour of
Amphibiville, (providing there are no emergency situations) and so much more. Breakfast is provided. Please pack a lunch. Program cost is $115 for members, $125 for non-members.
