Scout Quests

 

ImageEarn badge requirements by visiting the Detroit Zoo! Bring your group and choose one of our daytime adventures. Programs consist of a guided tour through the Zoo and a hands-on bio-fact presentation. Most programs meet all requirements for the described program. Check out our Animals Afer Dark Scout Overnight program, too!

Programs are offered on Saturdays at 10am or 1pm and last approximately 2 hours. There is no limit on group size and parents and siblings are welcome to attend at the same cost as the scouts. Admission to the Zoo needs to be secured though Group Reservations at 248-541-5717 ext. 3800 at least two weeks prior to your visit.

bear_scout.jpgSharing Your World (Bear Scouts)
Scouts will visit the Detroit Zoo to discover how zoos protect and save wildlife and learn about endangered species. Scouts will also find out how they can live safely with wildlife in our area. Cost is $2 per person, plus admission.

naturalist_pin.jpgNaturalist's Pin (Webelos Scouts)
Webelos will be taught how to identify venomous snakes found in their area, learn ways humans have changed the balance of nature, and become aware of what people can do to help protect the environment. Scouts will also learn food chain dynamics of an ecosystem. Cost is $2 per person, plus admission.

reptile_and_amphibian.jpgReptile and Amphibian Merit Badge (Boy Scouts)
A boy scout and adult mentor pair will take a tour of the Zoo, visiting the Backyards for Wildlife Site, National Amphibian Conservation Center Wetland Area, Holden Museum of Living Reptiles and other habitats as needed. A Zoo merit badge counselor will review requirements for their merit badge and teach about Michigan native and non-native species. For more detailed information about this opportunity, please click here. Cost is $30 per adult/scout pair and includes
                          admission, with a maximum of 2 pairs. Program lasts about 3 hours.

Order a unique Zoo Patch for your scouts! The patch comes with a self-guided scavenger hunt that you can use on your next trip to the Zoo. You’ll visit many of our animal residents and take a closer look at what makes them successful in their habitats.

Trek through the Zoo to discover how to enjoy animals in a safe way, learn how animals move, and why animals have different adaptations for their environments.
Cost is $2 per person, plus admission.

eco-explorer_brownie_badge.jpgBrownie Eco Explorer Try-It (Brownies)
Join one of our volunteer educators to become an Eco-Explorer. Our written trek will guide you as you learn how plants and animals live together in the environment!
Cost is $2 per person, plus admission.

wildlife_badge.jpgJunior Wildlife Badge (Junior Girl Scouts)
Junior Girl Scouts will learn how zoos provide habitats for wildlife and what we’re doing to protect endangered species. Scouts will also learn about wildlife groups like: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and much more.
Cost is $2 per person, plus admission.
