Discover our Ford Education Center and the wonderful opportunities that await you and your students! Our programs complement Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations. Classroom Field Trip Programs are held indoors in a climate controlled setting and are accessible for participants of all abilities. Programs are offered year round and last approximately 45 minutes. Cost is $2 per participant, plus admission. Maximum group size is 200 participants, some exceptions noted below.

earth.jpgIt's A Wild, Wild World Grades K-2
State Correlations: Science: L.EV.03.12, L.OL.01.13, L.OL.00.11
Short and tall, big and small - the animal kingdom has them all! We'll view many Zoo animals, see how they are classified, and look at similarities and differences. By the end of the program, students will know how to tell the difference between invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Whether up in a tree or down in a hole, there’s no place like home. Come discover the types of animals that spend their lives in water, on savannas, flying in the air, in Polar Regions and in the forest. Learn about what helps these animals live in these very different habitats!

State Correlations: Science: L.OL.E.2, L.OL.01.21, L.OL.E.1
All living creatures go through changes as they grow up. We’ll learn about the metamorphosis of amphibians and amazing facts about them. Birds and reptiles lay eggs; we’ll see who lays the biggest and how they hatch. Mammals grow up differently, some quickly, while others take their time.

State Correlations: Science: L.EV.05.12, L.EC.E.1, L.EV.03.12
We will take a look at Zoo animals and explore where they fit in their food web. For hunting animals, we’ll take a look at their hunting strategies and see what makes them successful in their environment. We will also look at the animals that are considered prey, and see how they avoid being dinner!

Come learn all about adaptations! We’ll learn what an adaptation is and what we do to adapt to our environment. Animals have amazing abilities to adapt to their ever changing surroundings, we’ll learn about the unique habits and behaviors animals have developed over time.

State Correlations: Science: L.EC.M.2
All life is interconnected. We will take a look at different food chains, and the relationships between animals. The group will discuss adaptationsand behaviors of predators and prey, as well as what happens when links are broken in a food chain.

State Correlations: Science: E.ES.M.4, B3.4A, B3.4B, B3.4C
Develop an awareness of dangers facing animals and natural habitats. We’ll take a look at places on earth with lots of biodiversity and discuss the reasons we have threatened, endangered and extinct species. We will also focus on ways zoos have gotten involved in conserving and preserving the environment and all it’s inhabitants. Learn how you can help, too!

Rainforest frogs to polar bears, come learn how the Detroit Zoo takes care of each animal’s needs! Students explore how habitats are developed and the special accommodations the Zoo makes for all of the animals, big and small. We will look at the journey zoo’s have taken to get to where they are today.
