african_adventure_stories.jpgAfrica Adventure Stories
Wonder what it’s like growing up in Africa? Come listen to true stories from our Education Specialist about life in rural Africa. Grab some tea, and get cozy around our “campfire”. Listen to the tales of growing up and being a safari guide in East Africa. You’ll hear stories about hippos, lions, gorillas, and many more! Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.
Dates:  March 14, 1-3 p.m.               June 13, 1-3 p.m.
           July 11, 1-3 p.m.                   August 15, 1-3 p.m.

Join us on an Eco Trek around the Detroit Zoo to see some of our green practices and habitats.  Learn the size of your ecological footprints and what that means to the earth.  Find out what you can do at home to make a difference for the animals of the earth. Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.

Bring your family, friends, uncles and aunts to the Zoo to learn all about animals in the polar regions! Watch seals glide effortlessly through the water, learn about how polar bears survive in the North Pole and how penguins live in the South Pole. You’ll spend some time in the Ford Education Center and take a guided tour through the park to visit the animals! Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.
Dates:  February 7, 1-3 p.m.
           April 25, 1-3 p.m.
           November 7, 1-3 p.m.
 

rainforest.jpgRainforest Trek
Experience the rainforests of the Detroit Zoo! Take a look up, down and all around the different levels of different types of rainforests. You’ll see all kinds of butterflies and birds and learn about what helps them to live in the tropical rainforests! We will look for animals that live in the temperate rainforests and learn what helps them to survive there. Rainforests are teeming with wildlife, come explore! Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.

Have you always wanted to know about the African Grasslands? Here is your chance! Take a guided walk around the Detroit Zoo and learn about our many African animals. You’ll learn about giraffes, rhinos, zebras and many others as you head on safari! Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.

wetland.jpgWetland Trek
Look no further than the Detroit Zoo to have a splash of a good time! Come learn about wetlands in a fun and interactive way. You’ll hop through our National Amphibian Conservation Center and hike along our wetland trails. You might even spot some other animals along the way! Program cost is $15 for non-member adults, $10 for adult members and $5 for all youth under age 16.

Spend the night at the Detroit Zoo! The Animals After Dark program provides a unique nature experience as you explore and discover the Zoo in a way very different from most visitors’ experiences. Look for more information on our Animals After Dark insert or visit our website. Program cost is $45 per person. Program starts at 7p.m. and runs until 10 a.m. the following morning.

We now have an arachnid exhibit featuring three new spider exhibits. We want you to be the judge are they friends or foes?  
 Second Saturday's Family Days 2009-2010 at the Belle Isle Nature Zoo 
Come join the family fun as we create and explore nature at the Belle Isle Nature Zoo.
Enjoy free crafts, snacks and a family program with different nature topics each second Saturday of the month.
