Zoos are naturally educational!  Our workshops will enhance your background knowledge while providing ideas on integrating the zoo into your classroom.

Become a Humane Partner in the Classroom. As part of our initiative, teachers will learn the importance of humane education, and how to promote a humane ethic in the classroom. All programs are held at the Ford Education Center.
 

Are you looking for interactive ways to teach your students about wildlife and wild places?
Project WILD and Project Aquatic are designed to supplement science, social studies, language arts, math, art, music and physical education curriculum. These one day workshops will demonstrate how to easily incorporate Project Wild and Project Aquatic in your classroom through hands-on activities. The $50 program fee covers the cost of materials for the program. Each participant will receive a current copy of the Project WILD and Project Aquatic texts. Lunch will be provided!

Growing Up WILD
is a national early childhood initiative that builds literacy skills and environmental appreciation among early learners through participation in engaging wildlife-based educational activities. The $35 program fee covers the cost of materials for the program. Each participant will receive a current copy of the Growing Up WILD text. Light snacks will be provided!

The Sowing Seeds Workshop is designed to train educators to effectively teach critical thinking about social justice, environmental ethics, and animal protection, and thereby enhance their students’ understanding that their choices make an impact on themselves, other people, other species, and the Earth. The workshop focuses on providing participants with a constructive approach for teaching about complex, controversial issues. Sowing Seeds offers participants dynamic activities and practical tips, demonstrations of the effectiveness of humane education, and an opportunity for group participation.  The workshop is recommended for educators of all types – classroom teachers and community educators. The Power and Promise of Humane Education by Zoe Weil, the text for the course, is included in the registration fee and contains sample lesson plans that educators can incorporate into their classes in age-appropriate and relevant ways.
