ROYAL OAK, Mich., October 15, 2009 – Detroit Zoo visitors will literally be “blown away” by the 126-seat Wild Adventure 3-D/4-D Theater opening Friday, October 16, 2009, at the Ford Education Center.  The first and only theater of its kind at any Michigan zoo delivers a high-definition viewing experience in 3-D with 7.1 digital audio surround sound, enhanced with full-sensory 4-D special effects such as wind, mist and scents.  The new permanent attraction debuts with the visually stunning wildlife adventure “Wild World Africa”.

ROYAL OAK, Mich., October 8, 2009 – The Detroit Zoo is seeing red with the birth of a male red panda born on July 7, 2009. 

Say Hello to Aloke and Alina

ROYAL OAK, Mich., September 30, 2009 – The Detroit Zoo received 13,050 votes in response to an online poll to name its black-and-white ruffed lemur twins born June 2.  With 8,132 votes (62.31%), the community agreed that these shadows of the night could go by no other names than Aloke and Alina.

ROYAL OAK, Mich., September 15, 2009 – Aloke and Alina would be perfect names for the Detroit Zoo’s baby lemurs, according to a group of senior citizens who responded to a public invitation to help name the twins born June 2.  The Zoo received more than 1,600 name suggestions and has narrowed the list to five pairs. 

Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness Gives Run ‘Stomp’ of Approval

ROYAL OAK, Mich., August 31, 2009 – Thousands of runners and walkers are expected to lace up their running shoes and head over to the Detroit Zoo on Sunday, September 20, 2009, for the annual Bank of America Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo.  Proceeds from the Run Wild event benefit the Zoo’s Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care.

Original Artworks by CCS Students to be Auctioned Off June 19

ROYAL OAK, Mich., June 17, 2009 – Artists from student organizations at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit have created “wild” life-size papier-mâché animals representing some of the Detroit Zoo’s newest arrivals.  The original artworks will be among the items up for bid in the silent auction at the Detroit Zoological Society’s annual fundraiser, Sunset at the Zoo, on Friday, June 19.

ROYAL OAK, Mich., March 6, 2009 – The Detroit Zoo is looking for volunteers who want to journey back in time to a land ruled by the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex when Dinosauria – an exhibit of 20 animatronic, life-like prehistoric creatures – opens in May 2009.  Volunteers will assist and educate Zoo visitors as they explore a lush, four-acre trail recreating prehistoric life.
