Limited engagement of "The Wizard of Oz" featured during October

ROYAL OAK, Mich., Sept. 20, 2014 – There's no place like the Detroit Zoo this Halloween season as the 4-D Theater presents a limited engagement of "The Wizard of Oz". During October, visitors can join Dorothy Gale and her friends as they make their way to the Emerald City to meet the great and powerful wizard. The condensed version of the beloved classic takes audiences somewhere over the rainbow and back again in just 15 minutes.

Located in the Wild Adventure Zone, the 4-D Theater engages all of the senses with special effects that make "The Wizard of Oz" even more spectacular. Viewers will be blown away by swirling wind and debris as a powerful twister transports Dorothy and Toto to the merry old Land of Oz. They'll feel the thud as her house drops on the Wicked Witch of the East and smell the fragrant flowers that greet her as she discovers she's not in Kansas anymore – and that's just the beginning of the 4-D surprises.

Tickets for "The Wizard of Oz" are $5 with Detroit Zoo admission for visitors ages 2 and older (children under 2 are free) and are available at main admissions, the Wild Adventure Zone ticket booth or online.

Produced by SimEx-Iwerks, an entertainment company specializing in 3-D/4-D cinematic experiences, "The Wizard of Oz" will be a featured attraction of Zoo Boo – the Detroit Zoo's annual merry-not-scary Halloween celebration – Oct. 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27, 2013. Theater tickets are $5 with Zoo Boo admission or $7 when purchased as a Beastly Bundle in combination with the Simulator Ride, featuring "Happy Feet: Mumble's Wild Ride".

The 126-seat 4-D Theater delivers a high-definition viewing experience in 3-D with 7.1 digital audio surround sound. The experience features a variety of sensory surprises that are built into the seats and theater environment, bringing on-screen images to life with 4-D effects such as mist, scents, back pokers, leg ticklers and seat vibrations. Some 4-D effects may be too intense for children 5 and under; parental discretion is advised.
