ROYAL OAK, Mich., May 11, 2012 – The Detroit Zoological Society's annual Sunset at the Zoo fundraiser will present a carnival-themed celebration, inspired by the Detroit Zoo's new Carousel.  The hottest event of the summer takes place on Friday, June 22, 2012, 7-11:30 p.m.  The 21-and-over gala is held rain or shine, and the Zoo closes at 2 p.m. that day in preparation for the festivities.

Presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions, Sunset at the Zoo will offer a strolling supper with tastes of signature dishes from 40 of the area's finest restaurants as well as desserts and zoo-themed specialty drinks.  The event will also feature live entertainment – including performances by Detroit Flyhouse and music by The Jerry Ross Band – carnival games, dancing, live and silent auctions and access to the Zoo's award-winning animal habitats as the sun goes down.  Attire for the evening is "summer chic".

Tickets for Sunset at the Zoo range from $150 to $600 per person.  A benefactor party will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the West Bloomfield home of Shelley and Joel Tauber for those purchasing $600 benefactor tickets.  A VIP reception will be held at the Zoo on Friday, June 22, 5:30-7 p.m., for those purchasing $600 benefactor tickets and $300 patron tickets.  To purchase tickets by phone, call (248) 541-5717 and press 9; to order tickets online, visit
