Detroit Zoological Society Appoints Veterinarian
ROYAL OAK, Mich., April 29, 2009 – The Detroit Zoological Society has appointed Dr. Sarah Woodhouse to the position of Veterinarian.  Woodhouse is responsible for preventing and treating disease in Zoo animals, prescribing and administrating medications, collaborating with outside specialists, monitoring the breeding and birth control of various species and performing examinations.  She joins Chief Veterinarian Dr. Ann Duncan at the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex.

“Dr. Woodhouse brings a wide range of experience to the Zoo’s animal health team.  Her enthusiasm and knowledge of exotic animal medicine will help ensure that our health care program is effective and that the animals at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo enjoy good physical health and well-being,” said Scott Carter, Director of Conservation and Animal Welfare.

Woodhouse previously practiced at the Toledo Zoo as an associate veterinarian.  She has also held positions as associate veterinarian at Dearborn Family Pet Care and Canton Center Animal Hospital and as an animal health technician for the USDA Exotic Newcastle Disease Taskforce in San Bernardino, Calif.

Woodhouse earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University, and graduated summa cum laude from Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., with Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Music.
