Watch the Lions Play on Super Bowl Sunday

Detroit Zoo Offers $2 off All Admissions February 3

ROYAL OAK, Mich., January 28, 2008 – The lions will play on Super Bowl Sunday – along with the tigers, snow monkeys and red pandas, among others – so the Detroit Zoo is offering a discount of $2 off all admissions on February 3.

Reduced admission prices are $9 for adults 13 to 61, $7 for senior citizens 62 and older, and $5 for children ages 2 to 12; children under 2 are free.  The offer is available only with a printable coupon, which can be found on the Zoo’s Web site, www.detroitzoo.org.

Winter is an ideal time for visitors to check out the Zoo’s newest resident, Curry the red panda, and her companion Rupert who can be spotted lounging on tree limbs in their wooded habitat.  In addition, the Japanese macaques, or snow monkeys, are always entertaining with their animated social interactions and can often be seen basking in the warm steam from their hot tub.

The tigers, wolverines, Asian wild horses, elk and bison also adapt well to colder weather.  Even the lions, native to warmer climates, can be found sunning themselves on bright winter days.  Sunday’s forecast is calling for sunshine and temperatures in the high 20s.

A popular Zoo attraction in any type of weather is the Arctic Ring of Life with its 70-foot underwater Polar Passage providing spectacular views of swimming polar bears and seals.  For a more tropical experience, visitors can head for the Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden where the temperature is always 75 degrees.

Other indoor experiences at the Zoo include the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Penguinarium, Holden Museum of Living Reptiles, Free Flight Aviary and Mardigian River Otter Habitat.  In addition, the Great Apes of Harambee, giraffe, white rhino, lemur and farm animal habitats all have indoor viewing areas.
