ROYAL OAK, Mich., December 29, 2008 – The Detroit Zoological Society has appointed Marcy Sieggreen to the position of Curator of Amphibians. She is responsible for overseeing all Amphibian Department operations, including animal care, conservation programs, guest interaction activities and research at the Detroit Zoo’s National Amphibian Conservation Center.
Sieggreen joins the Zoo from the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) in Westland, Mich., where she served for 12 years in a variety of positions, most recently as Facility Director. During her tenure at MHS, she opened and staffed a flagship operation and taught an animal sheltering class through the State Animal Response Team (SART) and Red Cross.
“Marcy has a strong academic background in science and impressive managerial experience. She brings significant strength in management and leadership to the Amphibian Department and is a great addition to the animal management leadership team,” said Scott Carter, Director of Conservation and Animal Welfare.
Sieggreen earned a Master of Biological Science from Wayne State University and Bachelor of Science degrees in Earth Science, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems and Geography from Eastern Michigan University. She is currently enrolled at Eastern for a second master’s degree in Geographical Information Systems.
The Detroit Zoological Society is a non-profit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of Ten Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696, in Royal Oak.
