ROYAL OAK, Mich., June 27, 2007 – The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit is performing “Zoomanity” and “Humane Education Medley” every weekend at the Detroit Zoo from June 30 to September 2.
“Zoomanity” is a half-hour theatrical performance featuring short vignettes, including “Trading Species,” “Southpaw Airlines” and “The Cost is Wrong.” Performances are held at the Zoo’s Ford Education Center at noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. June 30, July 8, July 14, July 28, August 5, August 11, August 19, August 25 and September 2. “Humane Education Medley” can be heard at the Zoo’s main entrance at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 1, July 7, July 15, July 21, July 29, August 4, August 12, August 18, August 26 and September 1. A quartet of singers performs medleys set to the music of six popular songs, such as “Heard it Through the Grapevine” and Bach’s “Fugue in G Minor.” The performances highlight humane education in a way that is fun and entertaining for audiences of all ages, according to the Detroit Zoo’s Humane Education Specialist Lisa Forzley. “Our goal is to inspire everyone to take care of the earth and the animals that inhabit it. We’re looking for different ways to do that, and theatre is a wonderful way to reach people.” The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit is an award-winning professional performing arts training program. Its mission is to empower young people and maximize their potential through professional performing arts. The Detroit Zoological Society is a non-profit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of Ten Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696, in Royal Oak.
