Detroit Zoological Society Announces New Board Members

ROYAL OAK, Mich., August 2, 2007 – At the annual meeting of the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) held July 25 at the Detroit Zoo, the membership approved the following slate of candidates for a three-year term of board service:  Larry Alexander, John Erb, Allan D. Gilmour, David K. Page and Sean Werdlow. 

Alexander is president and CEO of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB).  He has transformed the Bureau into the leading organization responsible for facilitating tourism economic development in Metro Detroit.  Alexander navigated efforts to land Super Bowl XL in 2006 and the 2009 NCAA Men’s Final Four.

Erb is the vice president of Edgemere Enterprises.  He worked in the family business, Erb Lumber Co., until it was sold in 1993.  Erb serves on the board of governors for Cranbrook Institute of Science and on the advisory board for Common Ground Sanctuary. 

Gilmour retired in February 2005 from Ford Motor Company as vice chairman.  He serves on the boards of directors of DTE Energy Company and Universal Technical Institute.  Gilmour is chairman of Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and of Henry Ford Health System Foundation. 

Page is a partner in the law firm of Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn in Detroit.  He is also a director of Meadowbrook Insurance Group, Inc., and serves as chairman of the finance committee and as a member of the governance and nominating, compensation and investment committees.  Page is a trustee for Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Rose Hill Foundation and Temple Beth El.

Werdlow is managing director for Siebert Brandford Shank.  He previously served for four years as chief financial officer for the City of Detroit, where he was responsible for implementing initiatives that resulted in $300 million of revenue generation and $200 million of expenditure reductions.  Werdlow serves on the board of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

The following DZS Board members were re-elected for another three-year term: Bonnie Beresford, Nasser Beydoun, Thomas C. Buhl, Shauna Ryder Diggs, Anthony F. Earley Jr., Marjorie M. Fisher, Denise J. Lewis, Stephen R. Polk, Lloyd A. Semple, Joel D. Tauber and Gail L. Warden.
