ROYAL OAK, Mich.— The Annual Meeting of the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) was held this morning at the Zoo. At the meeting, the membership approved the following slate of candidates for a three-year term of Board service: Leslie C. Devereaux, Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, Linda H. Gillum, Ph.D, Louis Green, Mark A. Kelley, M.D. and Robert C. Larson.
Leslie C. Devereaux is a current member of the DZS Advisory Board and one of the Zoo’s longstanding contributors. Her involvement has helped make many of the Zoo’s successes possible. Devereaux received a B.A. degree in English from Northwestern University. Bishop Charles H. Ellis, III is the Pastor of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. He pastors nearly 8,000 members and is a respected and distinguished leader in the Detroit community. Bishop Ellis is a business administration graduate of Wayne State University with a major in accounting. He holds an honorary doctorate degree from Aenon Bible College. Linda H. Gillum, Ph.D. is a national leader on issues of institutional change, particularly sustainability, diversity and excellence and collaborative school partnerships. She is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Neuroscience Division of the Department of Psychiatry at The University of Michigan Medical School. Gillum has authored and presented more than 30 conference papers on the role of postsecondary education and cultivating college achievement potential. Louis Green is President and Chief Executive Officer of Michigan Minority Business and Development Council (MMBDC). MMBDC is considered one of the nation’s premier organizations for increasing business opportunities between major buying organizations and minority-owned businesses. The Michigan Legislature recognizes Green for Excellence in Diversity and Minority Business. He received a B.A. degree in both communication and government from Oberlin Collge, Oberlin, Ohio. Green also holds a master’s degree in public policy from The University of Michigan. Mark A. Kelley, M.D. is the Executive Vice President of Henry Ford Health System and Chief Executive Officer of the Henry Ford Medical Group (HFMG). He leads the clinical, educational and research activities for HFMG’s 900 physicians. Dr. Kelley, former Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, completed both his B.A. and his M.D. degrees at Harvard University. Robert C. Larson is a managing director of Lazard Alternative Investments LLC, as well as chairman and a managing principal of Lazard Real Estate Partners LLC and Lazard Freres Real Estate Investors LLC. Also, Larson is the chairman of Larson Reality Group (LRG), a privately owned Detroit-based real estate company. Prior to joining Lazard, Larson spent 26 years with The Taubman Company, a publicly traded real estate investment trust. Larson received his B.A. degree in government and international relations from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota. The following Board members were re-elected for another three-year term: Madeleine Berman (civic leader), Mary Kay Crain (civic leader), Kay Cowger (civic leader), Alan Kalter (CEO, Doner), Michael Jamieson (Group Senior Vice President-Commercial Banking, LaSalle Bank), Thomas Ogden (Executive Vice President-Global Corporate Banking, Comerica Bank), Cynthia Pasky (President, Strategic Staffing Solutions), John Piceu (President, United Paint and Chemical Corporation), James Rosenthal (President, National Lumber Company), Marilyn Way (civic leader) and Jeffrey Willemain (Global Managing Partner-Assurance Services, Deloitte and Touche LLP). The Detroit Zoological Society is a non-profit organization that operates the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of Ten Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696, in Royal Oak.
