Guest Relations Assistants

 

As a member of the Guest Relations Team, Assistants will provide hospitable, courteous service and accurate information to visitors on a daily basis. They will answer guest questions and handle issues effectively, promptly, and consistently. Guest Relations Assistants complete daily cleaning assignments to ensure visitors have a positive image of the Zoo. They have a variety of responsibilities based on Guest attendance and special events. Their ultimate goal is to ensure visitors have an engaging, meaningful and memorable experience at the Zoo.

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Greets visitors in a friendly, professional, welcoming manner.
2. Provides positive experience to the visitors of the Detroit Zoo.
3. Provides information about facilities.
4. Responds to customer needs.
5. Directs visitors to various facilities and exhibits.
6. Assists with crowd control.
7. Responding to visitor emergencies according to Detroit Zoological Society protocols and procedures.
8. Daily cleaning of Zoo entrance, parking lots and structure, sweeping, and changing trash can liners.
9. Positions include cashiers, greeters, parking attendants, ticket takers and Wildlife Interpretive Gallery attendants.
10. Cash handling and cashier responsibilities.
11. Checks cash register receipts.
12. Directs visitors to parking spaces.
13. Assists patrons boarding the miniature railroad.
14. Assists in locating lost children.
15. Maintains premises in a clean and orderly condition, reporting malfunctioning equipment, wear and tear, damage, and theft.
16. Helps set up and assist with special events.
17. Complies with all federal, state, local, and organizational policies/procedures.
18. Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Requirements:
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Must be capable of working without close supervision to a consistently high standard and have a strong commitment to safety and excellent customer service.
• Valid State of Michigan driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of standard business practices and proper phone etiquette.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and other standard office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees and guests, both orally and in writing.
• Must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Demands:
• Able to perform essential job functions which typically involve communicating with large groups of zoo visitors.
• Walking and standing for long periods of time.
• Stooping, bending, and kneeling.
• Lifting 50 pounds up to the shoulder.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Rate of Pay:  $8.00/hour
