Community and Government Relations Interns

Detroit Zoological Society Seeks Community and Government Relations Interns for Summer 2008 Tax Referendum Campaign.

The Detroit Zoological Society is seeking enthusiastic student interns for the summer of 2008 who are in their junior or senior year and studying Communications, Political Science or related fields.  Students are needed to assist with campaign implementation for a proposed regional tax to support operations and infrastructure maintenance at the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo.  The regional tax referendum is anticipated for the August or November 2008 election in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties.

Interns will participate in an array of campaign duties.  Examples of tasks are distributing campaign literature, telephone canvassing, manning a visitor information tent at the Detroit Zoo, administrative tasks, assisting with special events and working at the polls on Election Day.

Interns will work closely with the Community and Government Relations Manager as well as a team of Society staff and volunteers, consultants and other interns.  Excellent writing and public speaking skills are a plus.  Previous knowledge of computers and other office equipment is also useful, but not required.

This is a paid internship and an opportunity to help secure the Zoo’s future for generations to come. If students wish to receive college or university credit for the position they must provide information from their school on internship requirements as well as the certification documentation needed to receive credit.
