Advancement Intern

 

The Advancement Internship is an un-paid, for credit only, intern position at the Detroit Zoological Society. The Intern will work in the Development Department to assist the Development Team with the identification, evaluation, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors.

This internship will focus on hands-on experiences and involve all facets of Development. This is a tremendous learning opportunity for a student who is interested in gaining experience that will help them understand the needs, processes and functions of a non-profit organization’s Development Department.

Responsibilities:
• Assist with normal Development activities; research, cultivation, stewardship.
• Provide staff assistance for animal Encounters – their scheduling and fulfillment with donors.
• General office duties as they relate to the daily operations of the department, including but not limited to: data entry, copying, filing, faxing, responding to requests for information, phone inquiries.
• Will work with the Development Director, Foundation Gifts Manager, Membership and Guest Relations as needed.

Qualifications:
• College majors: Philanthropy, Development, Non-Profit Management, Communications.
• Junior or Senior level college students enrolled in the appropriate majors.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Researcher’s Edge is helpful.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.
• Creative, friendly, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work in a timely manner.

Credit:
Students must provide information from their school on internship requirements as well as the certification documentation necessary to receive credit.

Interns must comply with and follow all employment requirements of the Society.
