Antelope Mask, Early 20th Century.

Artist unknown, Burkina Faso, Africa
polychromed wood and raffia cord.

The mask was worn by a male dancer in ceremonies where he embodied the antelope spirit, which was the symbol of his clan, past and present. The body of the dancer would have been totally covered by a costume of raffia cord.
