Mardigian River Otter Habitat

River otters are unique, aquatic mammals native to Michigan. Once on the brink of extinction, the river otter population is now making a comeback thanks to protective laws and breeding programs. The Detroit Zoo's Edward Mardigian, Sr. River Otter Habitat is home to two river otters. The river otter house opened in October 1997 and provides a naturalistic environment featuring an 8,200-gallon pool complete with waterfall and waterslide.
