Research Opportunities

ImageThe NACC serves as a resource for academic, governmental, and other conservation-oriented amphibian biologists from around the world by providing a controlled environment for amphibian observation and non-invasive research on all aspects of biology, from basic husbandry requirements to reproductive behavior and embryology/development.

Visiting Scholar Program: The Detroit Zoological Society is accepting applications for a newly created Visiting Scholar position in the National Amphibian Conservation Center (NACC). Qualified applicants will be amphibian biologists from diverse disciplines, including academia (professors, graduate and undergraduate students), fellow zoo biologists, or governmental and other conservation-oriented amphibian biologists interested in performing non-invasive research on our captive amphibian collection and wetlands.

Topics of interest to DZS include but are not limited to:
• reproductive physiology, especially reproductive cycling and its environmental influences
(temperature, photoperiod, precipitation, barometric pressure, etc.)
• reproductive behavior, especially cataloging and analysis of anuran calls
• territoriality and other intraspecific interactions
• embryology/development
• larval biology
• genetics
• nutrition
