Behind the scenes

ImageNearly half of the facility is off-exhibit, comprising holding and breeding rooms, offices, and research space. Two large holding rooms (one for warm and one for cool species) are designed to allow for proper husbandry of a wide variety of amphibians, and a smaller "free-range" breeding room allows animals greater mobility in a controlled environment. A walk-in refrigerator allow for over-wintering animals.

ImageThree quarantine rooms provide space for animals involved in specific conservation programs. All animal rooms have ultraviolet-penetrating skylights. A large kitchen is available for food preparation, and an adjacent live food room allows for the culturing of varied invertebrates to ensure the captive amphibians receive a balanced and nutritious diet. There is also a curator's office, conference room, multi-purpose project room, audio/visual technology room, and an office for visiting researchers.
