White Rhinoceros

The African Grasslands also includes the white rhinoceros habitat. Tamba, a 6- year-old male, and Jasiri, a 7-year-old male, arrived at the Zoo two years ago, and have been fascinating visitors since. The white rhinoceros is the second largest land-living animal, weighing in at up to 9,000 pounds – far surpassing the average full-size super cab pick up truck with four passengers and a full load. But don’t be deceived by their size; rhinos have been clocked at up to 40 miles per hour. The Zoo hopes to acquire females eventually in order to breed this important and endangered species.
