AZA Significant Achievement Award

Detroit Zoological Society Receives AZA Significant Achievement Award in the Exhibit category

ImageThe Detroit Zoological Society was awarded the Significant Achievement Award for the Arctic Ring of Life at the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) annual conference yesterday. "This is the third time in the past five years that the Zoo has won significant AZA honors. We are very excited that such a prestigious award recognizes this one-of-a-kind exhibit," said the Director of the Detroit Zoological Society, Ron Kagan.

Last year the Zoo was awarded the National Exhibit Award for the National Amphibian Conservation Center and in 1997 the Zoo received a significant achievement award for the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery.

The American Zoo and Aquarium Association was founded in 1924 and currently represents 209 accredited zoos and aquariums in North America. AZA's Mission is to support membership excellence in conservation, education, science and recreation.

There is no additional charge for the Arctic Ring of Life and it is open during normal Zoo hours. A portion of our award-winning exhibit is temporarily closed until November 1. Polar bears and arctic fox can still be viewed in the tundra portion of the exhibit.
