ImageBlood From a Stone?
Blood samples tell a lot about an animal's health. Finding blood to sample in exotic animals can be tricky. Some animals can be trained, and are usually cooperative when we draw blood from an ear - just a wince and we're done! Licensed veterinary technicians, also a part of the zoo medical staff, are experts in taking samples from all kinds of animals.

ImageMicroview
The microscope is one of a veterinarians most valuable tools. Looking at blood, urine, feces, or thinly sliced organs through a microscope gives many clues about what may ail a sick animal. These blood cells are from a healthy reptile. Note the nucleus in each red blood cell - mammal red blood cells have no nucleus.
