It isn't really known why male mandrills have such bright red, white, and blue stripes on their face, though females may find them attractive.

Females undergo a monthly swelling that indicates to males that they are receptive to mating.

After a gestation of 5 to 6 months, a single infant is born. Females mature at around 4 years, while males mature at approximately 6 to 7 years.

Due to hunting and habitat destruction.
